AIKEN, S.C. (August 1, 2023) — Curious to see what the nuclear industry is all about, rising college senior from Texas, Jinju Philip, found his way to an internship with Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC).
Philip is a summer intern with SRMC, the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), supporting the operations and projects component of the Quality Assurance department. Philip attends Texas Technical University and came to SRMC to practice his skills professionally.
As part of Philip’s internship, he performs surveillances, work order package reviews, and ensures procedures and guidelines are met. He also supports quality control inspections, such as checks on diesel generators, and prepares status reports.
Philip stumbled upon the job position on LinkedIn and said he was curious in exploring work in the nuclear industry.
“I did not know much about the nuclear industry living in Houston, Texas,” Philip said. “This internship in the nuclear industry was a new opportunity for me, and I was excited to learn more.”
During his time off, Philip enjoys exploring South Carolina’s nature trails. He is always curious to find out why different processes take place in nature and how exploring on these trails relates to his passion for engineering.
“Part of my job at SRMC is being an explorer,” he said. “Working in Quality Assurance, I have to be curious to know how things work, and I am the same way out in nature. I always want to find out why things work the way they do.”
Philip has valued his work at SRMC and said that he was placed with a great group.
“I am very fortunate to have a team that always supports me,” Philip said. “I work with a wonderful group of people.”
“I am curious to see what else SRMC has to offer,” he continued. “I want to return after I graduate, so exploring my options now will prepare me for my future.”
Savannah River Mission Completion intern Jinju Philip is working in Quality Assurance at the Defense Waste Processing Facility at the Savannah River Site this summer.
SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
