SRMC Chief Engineer Dr. Thomas Burns, Jr. presented the donation to SouthernCarolina Regional Development Alliance (SCA) at the organization’s annual board meeting this month in Bamberg, S.C.

SCA is a regional economic development alliance for seven counties in the southern region of the state: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper. Allendale and Barnwell counties border the Savannah River Site (SRS), and many SRMC employees are residents of these counties.

Burns, an SCA board member, said the organization does a phenomenal job of attracting industry to this area to diversify the state’s economy.

“It is a win for everyone who lives and works here when local economies are strong and thriving with businesses across all sectors,” Burns said. “Savannah River Mission Completion is proud to continually support SouthernCarolina Alliance in its efforts to attract companies and develop the workforce in this region.”

Danny Black, SCA President & CEO, said SRMC’s $10,000 donation will help create training programs to continue to grow a uniquely skilled workforce in this region of South Carolina.

“Savannah River Mission Completion continues to be a generous partner of SouthernCarolina Alliance and a strong supporter in our mission to build a brighter future,” Black said. “SRMC’s commitment to supporting economic development initiatives reflects the company’s dedication to fostering growth and prosperity. This contribution will significantly aid our efforts to enhance local opportunities and improve the quality of life for all residents.”

SCA is the regional nonprofit economic development organization marketing the seven counties for industrial recruitment and expansion. Since 1996, SCA has been a critical connector linking industry and governmental leaders at the state, national, and international levels and leads across sectors, including automotive, aerospace, advanced composites, distribution, forest products, and alternative energy.

SRMC is the Liquid Waste contractor at SRS. The company comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
