SRMC Donates $5,000 to Golden Harvest

AIKEN, S.C. (August 28, 2024) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) employees served meals in the Golden Harvest soup kitchen, and SRMC donated $5,000 to Golden Harvest Food Bank to provide healthy food for local families in need.

The soup kitchen, called The Master’s Table, was served by volunteers from SRMC’s Representation and Inclusion Working Group, along with SRMC Chief Administrative Officer Mark Barth.

The donation will assist Golden Harvest’s mission to eliminate hunger in surrounding communities. By 2030, Golden Harvest hopes to ensure access to enough nutritious food for people struggling with hunger and make meaningful progress toward ending hunger throughout its 25-county service territory in Georgia and South Carolina, where one in seven people experiences food insecurity.

Barth said that the SRMC volunteers and he learned more about the hunger issue from the Golden Harvest experience.

“Savannah River Mission Completion appreciates the opportunity to support Golden Harvest again this year,” Barth said. “I am pleased I could join SRMC’s Representation and Inclusion Working Group to serve a hot meal to those who need it.”

Golden Harvest Food Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Amy Breitmann said that having partners like SRMC helps their organization thrive.

“Because of companies like SRMC, Golden Harvest has been able to expand operations,” Breitmann said. “We were able to build a new Produce Rescue Center, located across the street from our main building in Augusta, that doubles our refrigerated space where we store fresh produce. This facility has additional space for volunteers to assist, like SRMC’s team that graciously supported us today.”

SRMC is the Liquid Waste Contractor at the Savannah River Site and comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
